In my mind I see our soldiers in their uniforms of war Their faces stark as stone as on they see The battle that confronts them as they run to claim a shore In thought of home and where they soon might be Running into bullets and defiant force of man Small hope of making ground or foe retreat All sticking to their orders and their military’s plan In Gallipoli, they faced death and defeat Their spirits rarely broken; with their pride it pushed them on All mates that fought and faced what fate might be No time to think or panic, to fate they did belong; A thought, that brings both sorry and pride back home to me ------------------------- They’ve all now gone and left this earth and nightmare with their mates Now spending time where comrades go to rest While we stand to reflect the past, to which this day relates The pride; resilience, courage; of each ANZAC gathered there ---------------- Our soldiers are the front men, who with valour march on to The orders that commanders feel should win Some battles won, but many lost, what are these men to do? When poor laid plans are made and wars begin I feel a pain inside for all the many we have lost And ridicule for man’s disease to fight So many thousand lose their lives, at really such a cost No one here or anywhere can say that that is right On this day we honour those who fought to keep us free We read their stories told so long ago People just like you and I; I’m glad today we see And that this day each year their spirits show Today we honour all our troops as well as Anzacs passed Our allies and our friends who they may be In hope I pray that they won’t fight and wars on earth won’t last That we the world, can nurture peace and live a life that’s free Lest we forget |
