He Must Love Me |

How can he love me? I can be overly needy and quite demanding when I am sick from these "curing" drugs. I can be selfish and very self centered; when all I want are soft whispers and hugs. I am neglectful to ask him “How was your day?” because my day was a pure one from hell. I am foolishly doubtful of his loving words- my fleeting trust is an empty shell. When I am forgetful to say that I love him as I again angrily slam down the phone. When I am stressed out and overly moody my harsh words are mean- with a nasty tone. He must love me. He patiently ignores and forgives me for the continuous faults that he sees. He is understanding and forever supportive, as I cope with this annoying disease. Healing from breast cancer is not always easy. It causes more than just physical pain. Daily drains the emotions right from my body; and from this caring man who rarely complains. Thank you, my lover and friend, for believing in me. I could not be doing this without you by my side. |

I am hoping this reaches the eyes of the person it was intended for. Having been in these shoes myself with relatives, I know the journey is a hard one from both sides. It is great to know that you both will realize that. A wonderful poem and I hope a very healing one as well. |

A friend and lover is someone who will stand beside you when you're beside yourself. Sounds like you have a good one there and I can tell he does. Excellent writing! |

Thank you, LngJhn, for your compliment and for your prayers. Thank you, Chalmette Guy, for responding to my poem, too. You are so right....it is easy to hurt the ones we love the most. They deserve so much more. This person deserves so much more. OldBuddyOldPal |

I have dealt with cancer with a loved one and know how hard it is to watch someone else suffer. Bless him and bless you for writing this. Ida |

Dear Ida, It is so hard for those who love you to see you suffer. Sometimes I think it is harder for them. I appreciate your kind words. |

A person who has a disease is a terrible thing. This is why we have such expert nurses and doctors to help facilitate these people with their daily needs. Take any nursing home for example, it cares for many people, who are mentally or physically ill. It's a tragedy, sad, but people cope well, and that is what matters most. |

I cannot say that I have walked in your shoes with the terrible C word, but I have found out what it is like to have the one you love to stay by your side when your health is ravaged and death knocks on your door...those vows we took at 19 have grown into cherished promises of later years...we are both blessed for we are both loved...wishes for a speedy recovery and prayers to the Great Physician for health...thank you for this lovely write |

Dear Trapped. Yes, there are doctors and nurses to help those that cannot take care of themselves and have no family to rely on. My point of my writing was that illnesses affect those that are sick and their families, too. Some of us are lucky to have strong support around us. I am very grateful for mine. Thank you for responding. Hi, Steaven. You sound like you have a very special love in your life. Continue to cherish her and I hope she will be in your life until your golden years. Thank you for reading my poem and leaving your beautiful words for me to read. |

We tend to be the most selfish when we are in the most pain. It takes courage and love to have your truthful self awareness. You and your man are a great inspiration to us all. My prayers are with you both. walt |

Earl, Toe, and Walt... Thank you for your thoughts. Breast cancer is very curable when caught early and with new drugs, having to feel so sick with the chemo that is going to make you well is not so bad these days. For me, it has not been the fear of my mortality but all the other things like making the correct choices, dealing with poor self esteem, facing the loss of my hair and accepting the change in my body that have been so hard. |

Dear OldBuddyOldPal, My mother had to deal with these things. I do not know if it will help but there are some wonderful hats and scarfs that you can buy off of the internet through amazon.com. My mother was really pleased with them. She also got a nice wig. The hair grew back. After the cancer treatment you have to be careful by taking blood tests to make sure that the cancer doesn`t sneak back. I don`t mean to scare you but I want you to stay healthy at all costs. |

Lindsay, thank you for reading my poem and for your kind words. Earl, I appreciate your advice and sharing your mom's experience. I have a terrific oncologist who is knowledgable with a wonderful bedside manner. I did get a wig. I teach school and it was funny when I changed over to it... the students who saw me made me laugh as they walked away. The comment I heard most often was "But it makes her look so young!!" (and it does!!   |
