yesterday you wore joseph coat colors
and black boots and those diamonds
you wear in your eyes for the dawns
with your jaunty on walking quickly

and I was reading hemingway and smoke
from a whispering fuente that was handy
wishing you would say something vulgar
like hello or good morning mister softly

but you remained proper poised polite
and then you stopped just long enough
to step on my mind as it writhed serpentine
at those ankle seams of your hurry hesitation

I wrinkled a pout into a sunburned smile
when you giggled little girl stuff
and then turned back to your flight
lady gliding those moments like lifetimes

that disappeared into your yellow submarine
