As I looked into those eyes That night I could have died Fallen to my knees and cried Stayed strong, so I lied I'll be just fine I said I'll be just fine Your warmth gone to touch another man Not yet but soon, I'll manage I'm sure I can I'll focus on saying hello You'll say goodbye I'll go on hoping one day Like a fool You'll come back to me I'll see you kissing him Hugging him I'll wish it was me You'll tell them You'll laugh I'll grit my teeth and be the man I was taught The man I've always sought To be Maybe you'll remember when you gave me your heart I put it in my wallet, so It and I may never part It lays there still, I caress it gently The paper stinging, my chest empty |

I felt the emotion in every line. This is very good and I am glad that I stopped for "just one more" before I leave for the day. And .. thank you too. It's been pretty quiet here lately - maybe we are all just taking a lazy spell in responding. Please, don't stop sharing. I read more than I respond to and I'll step up and start adding my thoughts again more often. Take it easy - and thank you for this poem. A |
