I live in Kansas which is neither here nor there except for the fact that it is here which begs the question of what is "it"? the Apollo XIII space capsule resides in our fair city which is the home of the annual state fair (not the capsule, but our small city) again with "it" far too deep for a Kansas farm boy to ruminate upon now one might ask how a space capsule a portion of the Berlin wall and more Russian spacesuits than you can shake a stalk of wheat at ended up in the middle of the Great American Desert? any Kansas farmboy knows the breadbasket of the world was once a desert, at least before it was a sea SEA, now that's the answer for sea is salt and we ain't known as the Salt City for nothing even though salt is worth near to nothing if'n you mine enough and you don't know what to do with all your money you can buy anything, rockets, space capsules, and even more Russian space suits than you can shake a stalk of wheat at you can see the grain elevators in the next town over because the land is so flat and we ain't got them damn trees to get in the way which confuses folks as to where we hide the salt 600 feet down are catacombs of caverns stretching as far as the eye could see that is if the caverns were atop the Great American Desert what the heck do you do with catacombs buried in the middle of nowhere? Shucks, you store originals of Hollywood movies, even the Wizard of Oz Which by the way irks most Kansans when you make Oz jokes While we many not like the Wizard of Oz, we do like Kansas and our podunk cities out in the middle of nowhere. |
