Goya. That is how we know his name. World-class painter, Spain proudly did lay claim. Religious art and sketches he portrayed, It was late eighteenth century he held sway.
Illness struck down this man of zealotry, Laid waste to his vibrancy, then his glee. Goya began to see a brand new world, Because of the crippling he was hurled.
His paintings then turned depressing and dark, The Napoleonic wars caused a spark. French atrocities, vivid in blood red Colors as he painted the thousands dead.
A portrait he sketched with India ink, Self portrait some do believe he did link. An old man, monks apparel, hobbles on, Two canes to help his withered body drawn.
The aged man seems overwhelmed and in pain, Each tiring step carries him to his bane. Deaf by now and mentally crushed, his soul Dispirited and he can grasp no goals.

Thank you for taking on this sad piece, faith, it was a sad time for Goya, but he never stopped mixing paint.

Enjoyed the insight and I'm glad to see a poem from you today. Was wondering about you and if someone was rattling your cage. Happy Sunday JP~
