Alone with Beethoven Music swells around me tonight Lifting voices soar Strong notes hold me in embrace While I long for more Black notes move behind my eyes Dancing on a paper, white Cushioned on the air I breathe Beauty shining in the night Layers building, blanket the room Each obscuring time and place Passion wells to marry, meld Music shared can't be erased - Alison [This message has been edited by Alison (02-06-2011 04:26 AM).] |

Alison, you have painted so exquisitely what the heart of music is. Beethoven and Chopin are the two composers I regard as my favourites and I know a Beethoven mood which you have described so perfectly. I hesitated to say that is why I know just how you were feeling, because often such a declaration is the indication of a superficial belief which isn't correct. However, let me say that I strongly suspect that when I listen to Beethoven, I share the Beethoven mood you had last night. I saw your reference to listening to him last night in your delightful healing message to Linda in your last cherry red response. Owl |

aw, I thought the poem was going to be about a St. Bernard...Oh well, I liked this poem too. I don't know classical music but I enjoy it when I hear it and I know some of it can be very moving. Good write Lori |

Each verse is magical, but I'm partial to your ending. Lovely layers of musical poetry. I always enjoy reading you, Alison~ |

To lose oneself in the strains of the magnificent music you have described is to truly ascend to the rhapsody of the old ones, masters whose music will never, never die. ~ Some people are like a Slinky-not really good for anything, but you still can't help but smile when you shove them down the stairs. ~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (02-07-2011 07:30 AM).] |

Will the names of today's artists be remember 200 years later? I think not. Beethoven and his kind shall stand the test of time. You did well to prove this in your poem. Thanks for sharing. "We'll chase them like rats across the tundra." |

It seems that Beethoven used you gently. It's an experience that is so hard to put into words yet you've captured the mood of being swept by genius! Eric in a relationship the me becomes we. |

I read this the other day but did not have an opportunity to respond. While my notes on Beethoven are nothing like yours, I like that we both appreciate the man. ![]() He, and Bach, were among my early lessons on the piano. ![]() |

How funny - I had the same thought a moment ago, but felt that my efforts did not come close to yours. I never learned to play the piano, but my parents did teach me about loving all music - classical included. I am a fan of both Beethoven and Bach. Love you. Alison |

Lovely write, Alison! I usually end up crying when I listen to music (any music) and I don't actually know why that is. Maybe a past life memory or something. ![]() Helen |
