To exist for vendetta and material power alone is to risk terrible heartbreak. I left the followers behind and took an early morning walk, my first good ramble of this kind in many months, to talk with God. Between fog-dripping, silent oaks, all clustered far with owlet calls and memories of ev'ning croaks, I made my way beyond the walls. Into a misty morn at last, beyond the sleep-gray tempered dunes that guard a sandy, sordid past, the work of many moons I trod. Where formless skies meet formless sand, and dark ocean between is sown, what foot and disk and eye make--- To exist for vendetta and material power alone is to risk terrible heartbreak. |
