it was just past dark-thirty my mutt pressed for a tour of the neighborhood grumpily I acquiesced off we went streetlights not the best around here darkness order of the day took a left toward the Beauty Boutique just opened this week woman outside could see her from the lights of the shop talking on the phone saw her head jerk in my direction I knew she could only see a dark form Zoe and I kept walking toward her a second before I was going to speak to reassure her she ducked into the shop closed the door I heard the lock click I walked by the brightly lit shop she had positioned herself in a chair white slacks, dark blouse hurriedly flipping through a magazine there for customers she wasn't a customer she was the owner when Zoe and I strolled by she recognized me, smiled and nodded she'd seen me walking my mutt before besides, I let her cut my hair I smiled back We continued on our appointed rounds thinking thinking a lot about our little drama thinking women have to fear shadows men do not we meet them head-on cannot blame the woman for scurrying inside no, I cannot but I would hate to have to live that way ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |

I don't know, some women have tremendously strong character but I have to admit the majority would worry. However, now days many men would scurry too. You just never know who's standing near you these days. Crazy how it's all gone isn't it? I get the point Jerry and it's a good one. Thanks Eric. Character or no character, most women are not capable of besting a man in a fight. That was the only thing I was bringing out. I think I didn't get the point across. I mean I wasn't demeaning the beautician's character, I merely understood that she was afraid to remain outside the shop as I approached because she couldn't see who was approaching her. Yesterday her husband rigged up a VERY BRIGHT floodlight so that problem is solved.. ~ Good health is merely the slowest possible rate at which one can die. ~ |

i like how you handled the subject of your poem...you wrote it true to life...i agree with Eric that the world is changed and you never know who may be near you...i try to stay aware of my surroundings for that reason... i enjoyed your poem a lot because of the subject...it's different. There must be a poem in here somewhere. |

Hello Faith. Yeah, that was quite a strange feeling that night. I couldn't get the idea out of my mind that women have to flee certain situations. Anyway, thank you for being here. ~ I might be in favor of national healthcare if it required all Democrats to get their heads examined. ~ |

I enjoyed your poem (especially the Zoe part), Jerry, and I got your point exactly as you meant it. Actually it's not that bad - we can be cautious without being afraid. Owl |

I agree, Owl, cautious is a good thing, be it female or male, the times they are fraught with danger. ~ What's The Difference Between Roast Beef And Pea Soup? / Anyone Can Roast Beef. ~ |
