It' Dark in Here "It's dark in here" was all she said. She never saw the light turn red, Nor writing, there, upon the wall - She never saw a thing at all. As something deep, bleak and sordid I called love, though it afforded No mercy - No! Damn near killed me - In the cold silence revealed me. All the love, within me, shining... All those years, alone and pining, Yesterdayhad swept away On the echoed words, "I'll be o.k." Now, apparent from the beginning, Comes the end with nobody winning... The price paid by one dimming soul Endlessly falling through this hole. And I saw the gleam in her eyes, (Fading glimmer of glossed over lies); All she ever dreamt we could be, In her pretty little make-believe. I opened up so she could see There's naught but darkness inside me... "It's dark in here" - more, might have thought, But in her throat those words were caught. I wonder, watching her fall away, Did I truly think it'd be o.k.? Did she believe she could touch my soul, And, in the end, not have to pay toll? I close the door, that none may see Ever again this chest cavity... That screaming vortex of my sin, The bleeding darkness I hold within. Michael Anderson 1/21/2012 I strike! It quivers in that heart Which drives me to this end; I draw and kiss the bloody dart, My last-my only friend! ~Abraham Lincoln [This message has been edited by Michael (01-21-2012 02:14 PM).] |

Ah, exquisite Poeish poetry, Michael. This had it all, the deceit, the stupidity and the all-encompassing dark to set the mood and devour the children. ~*~ I gave up feeling guilty just to survive a long time ago ~*~ |

All the love, within me, shining... All those years, alone and pining, Yesterdayhad swept away On the echoed words, "I'll be o.k." You already know how this one has touched me and continues to do so. The rhymes give such pleasure while the words are so poignant. I hover between awe and ache, appreciating both!! |

JP, lol... Your reply made me think of those old commercials... "We all do dumb things," where the guy is pulling the know out of a string, while aomething incredibly heavy, and I can't remember just what, (must be that early onset alzheimer's you spoke of earlier), is hanging over his head on the other end of that string. Never underestimate the power of stupidity I say. JL, haha... I see how you are... Sure, blame me for bringing down the forum! Alison, than you, dear. Ruth, thank you... both for the compliment, and the encouragement to actually finish this one. Michael |
