you said you guessed you knew all along
that you could walk around the parking lot
with mary or jim, perhaps a dozen times
but when you got back, it would be the same

and I would tell you about squirting gum
and that off white paint for your walls
that you said is too thick for brushing
then you giggle about finger painting

and you would say you were distracted again
trying to measure your wrist and imagine
the hat size of the action figure uniform
and you hated sewing on buttons or zipper

so he might attend your boxer rebellion hatless

Squirt gum and action figures are much more fun than politics. Maybe they don't have enough toys to play with?
