Recalling the beautiful Trumpet Vine behind Nan's childhood home Trumpet Vine The trumpet vine, oh trumpet vine Still harbors secrets that are mine Protector of the summer nest Like clinging to a mothers breast Deep in the arms of peaceful rest Among the twisted limbs Though time for him to travel on The summer robin is not gone The trumpet sounds the warning call And bellows out the hymns of fall A childhood song I still recall Among the twisted limbs I’m sharing with a poet friend A secret she can’t comprehend And yet she sees the robin’s plight For soon he must engage in flight What sheer dilemma! What delight! Among the twisted limbs Elizabeth Santos |

I love the trumpet vine, and this poem is just fantastic. Good for you to share with a friend. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Great poem. I have three trumpet vines in my yard. They're a haven for bats late at night. |

Exquisite beauty in the rhyme and time of this poem, visually and audibly, for you are a harbinger of delight. The robin must know this, for he lingers. ![]() |

I have a trumpet vine growing on the fence. The humming birds love it. Always love your poetry, Elizabeth. Ida |

Elizabeth, this song is triumphant! Lovely in all of its display...and thanking Ice for the addition of what grows wild among the fields here in the heartland. |

Ice, that is such a glorious post on Elizabeth's poem! Nature is some artist!...and her poetry deserves that kind of beauty to illustrate her lines. So glad you put it there. ~KL |

The vine was planted by my dad about 50 years ago, and has grown to the size of a tree. Robins abound in the yard, and this poem is a wonderful tribute. Thank you, dear Lizzy - ![]() |
