If only once we could know love- The kind which fills the soul, And makes us blind to every flaw Our every whim controls. The kind which makes the heart to sing And time fly when together- And drag when distance comes between Yet binds us like a tether. To love and lose is not so bad- Though it should cast a pall- Tis so much worse for man or maid- To never love at all. If only once we had a friend- To share our every thought- To stand beside, to cheer one on In every battle fought. One to whom we need not speak But comfort could be found Because we felt the other's need When ever he's around. If only once...one had a dream A goal, one could pursue- It matters not if it's attained To only dream will do. A dream to give one purpose, friend A lighthouse for our course Across the stormy sea of life- To give our courage force. Without a love, a friend, a dream- Times passage seems to lull- Our senses and desires to live Makes life so drab, so dull. So love until thou canst no more Seek out and make a friend And dream as long as dream you can When they cease, it is the end. |

Beautiful, John. How wonderful that kind of love and that kind of friend would be – wonderful too and comforting to understand that the dream in itself is enough, yet how much more so if attained. Sometimes, it is but a step between the dream and the reality. Owl |
