At times, the body cannot abide its loneliness, that old gray mare, hoards its fading wilderness in a windowsill of herbs, frost, again brittles the grass darkens the reckless bud, and Wednesday is held beneath the ruinous mantle of dusk,
ain’t what she used to be, vellum leaves lit like lanterns, red ivy climbing onto the far wall, there are traces of a wingspan at the peripherals of night outside my window, streaks of ash and moonflower hang across a splintered trellis,
perennials curl with evening primrose, nocturnal, exposed, the body, an old gray mare in disguise, often resents its cage, limits its intake of nougat, and must be coaxed through the doorway,
ain’t what she used to be, ain’t what she used to be,
I will be here until morning, for the garden needs tending, Hosta blooms slightly under the canopy of your arms there is a surf of blackwater, and these vague fevers recede into the body’s gray feathers,
my scarred and eager palms till rigid rows, but solely on paper does my garden grow, and for all the dark moments when I am draped in silence, I give you roses
as so many smaller throats collapse into limp bouquets, and spill soundless as pink stamens asleep, the flesh in its own fire and poppied, pities the glass and its distance from the sill.

The old gray mare may not be what she used to be, but she is probably better at many things than she used to me. Poetry fer instance.
Where outside your window streaks of ash and moonflower hang, on paper they come alive for the poet and the reader.
Nice work.

In a battle with self-- shines above her The glint of steel, worn thin by years.. "ain't what she used to be" No, and well so...intelligence can be arousing: To prove she swings the gray excalibur
*"Two warriors have run one into the other; their weapons Have splashed the air with glimmers and with blood. This game, this clink of iron is the din Of youth preyed upon by keening love."
Alas, moonlight, at midnight All colors fade to fine texture Bouquets of Hosta, lilac kind That lose fragrance When dawn is waxing bright..
"under the canopy of your arms there is a surf of blackwater, and these vague fevers recede into the body’s gray feathers,.."
*"—This gulch, this is hell, with our friends it is peopled! Roll in it without remorse, inhuman amazon So that the ardor of hatred is never gone."
Judgments of the world, she murders Her swung sword of gray, streaks, and they "collapse into limp bouquets" But still, at close to weep-- mirrored The silver flashes back the threads of gray ...and she " pities the glass and its distance from the sill."
* From "Duellum" by Charles Baudelaire
Egads! I forgot to apply my grecian formula this morning...
Must have gotten too envolved in this poem to remember....:-)[This message has been edited by ice (01-05-2012 09:21 AM).]

bel1e Glad you liked what I wrote. I have been a member here since 2003, I see your pip birthday was in 2006..I was gone from here for several years, just returned in 2010.
As I can't send you an e-mail, I will ask you here..Do you have any uncomfortable feelings about me replying to poems of yours with an answering "kind of" poem as I have posted above?
If you do please e-mail me, or answer here..
I am not, in any way trying to steal your thunder.
Its just that I have poets torrets, and sometime I just blurt out words that somehow coagulate into a some what poem in my replies..

To read you gives me goosebumps of linquistic pleasure (... and makes me aware of my limits!).
You are pure and wild inspiration!

Your poetry is very expressive and exotic. Brain-food of a different sort. Very enjoyable to the taste.
