a flurry of pages
like so many dead, dried leaves
swept away
by the wind they call forevermore
murmurs of wheat sighing in the wind
hallucinations they all said would return
no hobgoblins or bloody red ghosts
none of the extraterrestrials
for me, my friend
I'm like a spider dangling over chaos
if life is a pretense
a bluff
a revolt really, absurd conspiracies
battling it out with the sense of value
midnight echoes
forest fire burning bright
thunder-crackle of hail
so misplaced
I reached out with my hands
only to draw them back
empty and shunned
an orgy of brains and glands
taking place
in the forest medieval
reaching again for the aura
blisters on the skin
who could forget it
an aura
fumble, stumble around
clambering to the far corners
outrunning the fire
pelted by hailstones big as your hand
cursing and hoping
to find the Word
somewhere

This poem reminds me of waking up out of a really intense nightmare.

"an orgy of brains and glands
taking place"

I like these lines, a lot. Very telling, great imagery.

Appreciate your input on my poem, Nicole. And yes, when brains and glands get together to work things out, it is usually the glands that override the brain, which is unfortunate in most of the cases.
