LITTLE BELL 27 December 2011 You tiny sun-kissed, shadow-cooled, yellow, Bauhinia tomentosa bell, high above my forest floor, frolicking in giggling harmony with carefree, miniscule, camel-foot leaves, to a backdrop of tree-fringed, blue-happy skies your dance of joy choreographed by a mischievous breeze of note, you enchant my cheerful heart and birth my summer delight. LOL, at your reply to my reply.you flatter me.:-) I grew up with nurserymen who would not allow me to speak plant names in any other than botanical terms.. An American sycamore was never a buttonwood, or plane tree, nor lace wood..it was always "Platanus occidentalis" Your comments prove that they served me well.. and besides... botanical terms fit well with serious poetry...such as what you have written here.. |

Ford, you don't know JUST HOW WELL they served you! You have no idea (yet) what you have just done for me! I only know the names of trees and plants indigenous to South Africa and I have a non-indigenous tree planted at the grave of my horse, Flicka, because the owner of the horse-farm would only allow one kind of tree. Because it wasn't indigenous, I didn't know what its botanical name is - well, not until now! It is a beautiful, huge, 9½ year-old Platanus occidentalis! Thank you! Owl |

It is my pleasure, Alison, though I know there is infinite beauty in your black and white world, as I know you appreciate - but yes, I can well imagine that some colour would be a relief for the stark beauty. I didn't even try to find a picture - firstly I don't know how to add a picture - and secondly, I knew Ford would oblige, lol! Owl |
