the mountains reared their might sun spreading lengthening shadows Gunslinger watched death of him in the shadows, in the shadows dark Love bested the Gunslinger's draw with lovin', fine cookin', and a rawness 'tween the sheets he'd ever witnessed Love was love, she was much more six months three days, ten hours since she'd drug him home half dead shootin' hand busted, he'd gotten good fast drawing and shootin' left-handed not as good as the other hand, just enough to get him killed one day Love was pleased he let her love him but watched intently his wandering eye * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * six more months one day, twelve hours Love hanging wash on clothesline out back Gunslinger snuck away as though a thief walking, had to find himself a horse Love came and watched Gunslinger leavin' darted into the one-room shack, came back totin' a buffalo gun, raised it to her shoulder aimed, last second, turned gun away from him Gunslinger flinched, waiting for another shot that'd bring him down; room temperature another blast and a buzzard fell from the sky as it fell to the earth Love screamed mournfully ©December 15, 2011 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |
