Having It Both Ways

Some people say
you can't have
it both ways.
My honey chooses
to live in Chicago
but still maintains
I am her boyfriend.
I'm thinking that
I need to look at it
more realistically.
By her living in Chicago
she is sending me a message
that she doesn't want
to be my girlfriend,
because my girlfriend
wants to be close to me
and my girlfriend wants to
kiss me good morning and goodnight
and my girlfriend wants to look
into my eyes when she says
sweet words like "I love you."
So unfortunately I have to say,
"My girlfriend can't have it both ways."

Seems you have come to a hard decision. Sounds like the right one from where I sit.

Love at distance is always rather frustrating in the long run, you are right, dear James, but there may be contingent reasons for postponing the decision to come closer. (work, parents etc.).

Wish you well, romantic Poet!

I understand, raising her daughter is certainly the number one priority, dear James. Be patient!

A very difficult situation indeed, on all counts.  You've depicted that well...and sometimes it does come down to a decision one way or another, but if it can sustain, then it is even sweeter for it.  Much luck to you

Chicago, huh ... so 4000 plus miles.  Other than the fact that she could turn this piece around and say "my boyfriend lives in Hawaii...", if she plans on staying in Chicago, and you Hawaii --- it's a no brainer.

Life has to go on. . . and not necessarily ideally for either or both parties.

You have to love what you had and go on . . . or do as my wife and I did when we came to a decision about living in different cities...

We got married and so far . . . 38 years.
