taking it downtown
neon splash
countrified lap dances
looking for happiness
settlin' for a smiling
counterfeit face

Very good snapshot of one of the ways to escape loneliness, Jerry.

Ah, thank you, Margherita, for your thoughts on my poem, plus the lagniappe of the deeper thought.

You nailed the descriptive escapade.
I saw many dives and joints back in 1967, from the outside looking in.  I can still remember the musky smells and neon signs as I walked down Bourbon Street.  I was under age, so look was all I could do.

Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself.

I used to live with a stripper on Bourbon who went by the name of Debbie the Debutante, and worked at a strip joint with the unlikely name of The Old French Opera House.

Thanks for stopping by, JL. I loved that crazy town in those days.

Saw the Bourbon St. of today in this piece ---

I loved the old, real, jazz & blues era of the 50's & early 60's, most of which I was under aged too, but privileged to see a lot of it from the inside, because of family . . . can't stand the facade of the French Quarter of today, with most of it's real history destroyed.

Glad I knew it, and New Orleans, in it's death throes, though much I've now forgotten too.

Good write, my friend,

j.

Thanks jwesley. Yeah, I first hit Bourbon in 1957, lived there, above Galatoire's Restaurant for quite a while. Yeah, when they did away with the strip joints and started putting in the lap dances, plus the x-rated peep shoes, Bourbon took a dive in the gutter.

Thanks for being here on my page, man.
