You nailed the descriptive escapade. I saw many dives and joints back in 1967, from the outside looking in. I can still remember the musky smells and neon signs as I walked down Bourbon Street. I was under age, so look was all I could do. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul,and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

I used to live with a stripper on Bourbon who went by the name of Debbie the Debutante, and worked at a strip joint with the unlikely name of The Old French Opera House. Thanks for stopping by, JL. I loved that crazy town in those days. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways. ~*~ |

Saw the Bourbon St. of today in this piece --- I loved the old, real, jazz & blues era of the 50's & early 60's, most of which I was under aged too, but privileged to see a lot of it from the inside, because of family . . . can't stand the facade of the French Quarter of today, with most of it's real history destroyed. Glad I knew it, and New Orleans, in it's death throes, though much I've now forgotten too. Good write, my friend, j. |

Thanks jwesley. Yeah, I first hit Bourbon in 1957, lived there, above Galatoire's Restaurant for quite a while. Yeah, when they did away with the strip joints and started putting in the lap dances, plus the x-rated peep shoes, Bourbon took a dive in the gutter.
