My Long Ago Home
by Linda L. Dowd

The dampness of the cool, autumn air,
musty smells of lichens and loam
~ ochres and russets of high rolling hills
remind me of my long ago home.

Mighty oaks in all of their splendor,
rustic browns of sedges and briar
~ denim-blue skies span lochs and the highlands,
forests ringing with magpie choir.

The earthy smell of fall’s leafy ground,
the pungent smoke of a hardwood fire
~ Fond memories are stirred of simpler times,
back home in the quaint, country shire.

Sheep grazing on emerald hillsides,
pipes echoing thru’ dales and tors
~ Peregrines circling cerulean skies,
purple heather blanketing moors.

Hares scamper o’er dew-laden grass,
buck and doe stand in silence by stream
~ Trout leap from sparkling, clear waters
as I raptly look on in day dream.

Bluebells line floors of the woodlands,
meadows teem with bracken and thistles
~ Grouse roaming carpets of peat moss,
woods ring with birdsong and whistles.

The dampness of the cool autumn air,
musty smells of lichens and loam
~ Ochres and russets of the high rolling hills,
remind me of my long ago home.

Linder Lou of the Moors,

Thank you for taking me to your heather hills and allowing me to see their beauty through your eyes.  I loved hearing the pipes and feeling the breeze as we sat by the stream.  You are lovely, generous and a keeper forever.

Love,
Ali

Oh, my dear Lasky Girl, I'd love to share those smells, sights, and sounds with you! You are a true appreciator of Nature's beauty!
I'm glad I could share a bit of it with you as you do me with your poems and photographs of Alaska!

Love you too!
Linder Lou of the hollows and the hills! xo

This is nothing less than breathtaking in its scope and wordage, Linda. There is such depth and feeling inside the lines of this piece of fine writing, that I think you must have been slightly possessed as you wrote it. Good poetry!

I took a mini-trip to the highlands through your words... and the smell of peat fire lingers in memory. Thank you for a beautiful read and fantasy! LOL

Masterfully written magical poem, dear Angelo Terrestre!
I have learned quite a number of new words in English, your language being so rich!
Loved your soft intense voice and the music too.
And then I remembered a fantastic photo taken by Tony Howell with the bluebells ...

Love and hugs.

Linda Angel
you have taken me home
to a place I've never been
but remember exactly as you paint it.

Linda, whilst there is nothing outwardly sad about this exquisite poem except the nostalgia, there are tears rolling down my cheeks at the immensity of it beauty which I know will cling to me long after I press the Submit button.

Gentle hugs and ever-powerpunch prayers
Owl
