One sunny day in cold October
driving a big lincoln was old Ash Colter.
Wheeling down Barker St. toward his kingdom
thinking bout the luxuries his money did bring him.
Near mid Barker st. was a barber shop,
man named Kiley set a business up.
To his suprise at just ten o'clock
in the same driveway sat one of his trucks.
Well old Ash knew there was work to be done
but there sat his truck in the October sun.
So he stroked his chin and thought tough thoughts
about how to settle such a breach of trust.

Well back to the office went old Ash Colter
and looked out the window where the trucks got loaded.
He waited and watched for the said same truck
he'd never get tired he'd never give up.
Well after a while the truck drove in
and Ash called down to bring the driver to him.
Then in walked the man with a sheepish grin
found old Ash Colter with his hand on his chin.
He said, "tell me son, you just get a haircut?"
He said, "Yes Mr. Colter  I did sure enough."
"Son you got it cut on company time!"
"Well that's when I grew sir it grew just fine."
"You did'nt grow it all on company time, what's up?"
He said "Mr. Colter I did'nt get it all cut!!"

Reminds me of the homespun humor of Will Rogers, and just as good.

reminds me of the old song we learned in grade school about the guy (Ole Dan Tucker?) who was blown up on the job & found his paycheck short when he fell back to the ground, 'cause he was "docked for the time he was up in the sky."
...loved your write...funny

Giggles, Eric.  I enjoyed this immensely, both times I read it - and will find it just as funny - if not funnier - each time I read it in the future.

I avoided this poem several times, as I didn't think I would find a haircut interesting - but I should have known better on 2 counts - the first being that I wrote a poem about turning on a tap that the children at the Poetry Club I run at a children's home keep remarking on, and secondly, I should have known that any poem of Eric's ain't gonna be boring!!!

More giggles!

Smiling on my friend...the things we do do, on company time. Now...think about it.
