Winter sharpens Edges and lines Cutting the soft Frames of summer As it sears The landscape Burning it With serrated flame Honing ice shards To cut and abrade The tender flesh Of fall Winter slices Muted colors Of dawn and dusk Mocking tenderness Lilting laughter liquid Drifting into fog Of ice and pollutants Snow to ice Touching same Tender flesh Kisses burn With wicked Delight - Alison |

I think I need to go put on another sweater! I just got chilled to the bone with this finely descriptive writing about ravages of an Alaska winter! Great writing, Lasky Girl! Love you! Linder Lou |

You've made me remember the very first time the weather cooled in middle California that my dog's water bowl iced over. I remember sticking my finger into the strange covering over the water, and cracked sharply! Ice! I yelled it... Ice! I felt it... this was a very, very LONG time ago! Yet, it was not near as clearly wrought as your poem. Very warm |

Ali, I always gravitate to your poems because I can feel them! I know Alaskan winters are brutal, but you paint them beautiful with color and textures, and as cold as they are, you leave us with kisses of delight and a heart-warming smile. Love this, and love you! ~Karen |

You've just made me appreciate 2 things very much: 1) Your beautiful poem that's so descriptive I felt I was there and not just here reading... and 2) I had temps some 100 degrees higher when dealing with my flat tire yesterday. LOL Unpleasant subject... gorgeous write!! |
