The Wind’s Reply Do you assume I can be harnessed, That I’ve let the windmills stand? Do you assume that I toil, Gliding free across the land? Yes, my whisper is “freedom” But only to those who trust I could carry them to it With a single billowing gust. The falcon soars the sky with me, And my pleasures it has shared. But to see that falcon mastered, Indeed, is thought I’ve despaired. Yes, I offer my assistance, As with it he sites his prey – Out of the blind streaking to his kill, I do not look away. Nor from the stag in the meadow – Nor steel separating the brush. I see all, and ‘am touched by all, But none can make me hush. The stag may fall, or may run free, By hands of Destiny… But even Destiny dresses warm In the presence of me. The cat held in captivity, I hope Finds comfort in my petting. But I’m not fooled by placid purrs, Nor silent rage it’s abetting. The silver flashes I am numbed too, I’ve seen them far too often... For nature’s greatest enemy Has a heart that ne’er will soften… In belittling all things precious, Including their own kind; I hear the cries amongst them, Though seldom pay them mind. Yet if you feel my touch in your soul, And hope is drawn therein. Know I do not offer better days… But whisper of a better “when”. The future and the past, one to me, I will never stop blowing… I’ve seen your beginning, and your end, And the things you’ve done, unknowing. But the same God who created you, Alas, gave freedom to me. And there’ll be a soft breeze in heaven, The question is, is that where you’ll be? Michael Anderson 11/06/2011 |

quote: Beneath your wing, or better yet to be your wind beneath your width would I side beside your gift and thus I speak with wisdom For a Poet speaks and leaves a breath upon and on which a wind would pick to break into a million pieces and scatter among the reeds that sing to give harbor, to give rest to the beasts, and the best of all you know, for where the wind blows, is ever clear... as only the chaff may know. ~*~ Michael, I probably should remove this, but you have inspired me, and I thank you for that gift. Bless you. K |

Oh, Michael... *S* I've always considered it a compliment of the highest order to have words from my pen inspire another... That my ponderings inspired you to pen this incredible poem swells my heart and fills my eyes with tears. I know I will be back to this for I want to absorb every word... but for now, I have to say I love where you took this... and send you my heartfelt gratitude. *S* |

K, you definitely should NOT remove your reply. It is beautiful, and as Suthern has so aptly put, the highest compliment to any poet is to know that he has inspired another artist. I thank you for such a wonderful response. JL, I’m glad you enjoyed. Ruth, I found such inspiration in your poem I could not refuse the muses this morning. The wind is chill here, and reinforced this. I thank you for such a beautiful poem, and ponderings that helped me reach past the darkness I’ve been brooding in of late. Michael |

quote: Until that better when arrives, I'll be listening to the whispers and giving thanks for both the wind and the poet who gave it such eloquent voice. Michael, you took a poem I'd almost forgotten and made something magical... and then your beautiful words inspired Sunshine. I am humbled and I'm honored to have played a part... Thank you! |

Margherita, thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed. Always a sucker for nature, I feel like I've known the wind, and the power behind it personally, at times. Ruth, and I thank you again for gifting me the inspiration to write something outside the realm of darkness I've been stuck in for so long. martiniat8, thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed. Michael Linda, lol... the wind and the God who created it are two of my favorite things as well. I'm glad you like it. |
