Questions for the Wind Do you mind being harnessed? Do mills reduce your power? Can you romp and play and tease When toiling all those hours? Is your soft whisper “freedom” To those beyond its reach Does your touch give comfort? Is it patience that you teach? Against cloudless, azure sky A falcon’s flight is viewed When he is recalled to gloved hand Does that bother you? You offer lift to his wings Enabling him to soar, Then he waits in sightless hood - That’s something you abhor? As you touch mountain meadow A stag breathes warily Hoping you’ll expose the dangers That he cannot see But when warning is too late - Watching his body fall, Do you mourn a regal beast Reduced to rack on wall? When your breezes stir the coat Of tiger in the cage As he paces back and forth Do you absorb his rage? Do you hear him question why Captivity occurs Or are you fooled with everyone By his placid purrs? Do you gasp with disbelief When struggling silver flash Becomes another trophy In a fisherman’s cache? Do you listen when a man So fine’s made to feel small? Are you too busy making noise To hear sighs at all? Does your touch upon a soul Enable us to cope? Do you promise better days? Perhaps you offer hope? Do you still whisper “freedom” To those beyond its reach? If we knew how to listen What is it that you’d teach? |

I can't quite get a grip on speaking to the wind, suthern, but it is as good a way as any to air out your questions on the various subjects. I thoroughly enjoyed the poem. ~*~ If they give you lined paper, write sideways ~*~ |

This is a poetic prize, Ruth. Deep with reflective thoughts and even a glimpse of human insignificance that might be felt in the presence of such an awesome power as the wind. Very well done. Michael |

Jerry: IF it doesn't accompany hurricanes or tornadoes or other disasters, I love the wind... it always seems to clear the fog from my mind. I'm glad you enjoyed... thank you!! Michael: Thank you so very much... Both your compliments and perception are greatly appreciated! *S* |

Not one knows where the wind begins or ends. Never harnessed or corralled Only used as it allows Mimicked but never broken only permitting to bend Never tiring until its power has run its course. Ripping land and trees at its bidding Whirling and assembling massive storms no one can end Filling sails pushing ships and raising waves Gentle for cooling breeze and lifting eagles to soaring heights Made for you, a poet, lost in thought of heavenly things. Loved your write suthern!! JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |

If I was the wind I would gather at your feet and whisper with loving kindness and gratitude for your caring and for your wondering. This is fantastic, dear Ruth. Margherita |

Margherita: Sweet lady, you always make me smile... thank you so much! *S* Marchmadness: Thank you so much for your understanding and kind response... I'm so glad you enjoyed! To all: Michael wrote a most magnificent poem called The Wind's Reply. My jaw is still dropped in awe, even as I do a little whirl of a wind waltz to think the poem above helped inspire this: /pip/Forum111/HTML/004092.html |

I read Michael's wonderful response first. Suthern, I am energized by the sound and feel of the wind. In fact, one windy day, I opened my dormer window just enough so that the wind 'soughed' through ~ and I recorded it so that I could play that sound whenever I needed quieting down before retiring for the night. My goodness! You certainly touch on all the aspects of my favourite element! (Mind you, I couldn't live without all of the others, either! lol) Love you, Linda |
