Pitch black
Black as road tar
Black is the night
Blackness, even utter blackness
Frightens me not
No
I conquered the dread of dark
A long, long time ago
In fact the dark has turned out to be
A friend
There have been times
I welcomed dark's all encompassing arms
Secreting me, giving me time
To heal
Those days of needing to heal are gone now
But I still give darkness its due
Its everlasting feeling of completeness
Daylight can't do that
Oh no
We're made to look at all of our warts in the daylight
To me
That's scarier than darkness
I have traveled down many dusty roads
In darkness
Sometimes the dark was only in my mind
Those memories
That darkness
Was scary
Intimidating
Bridges have been crossed
Some burnt
I've kissed goodbye
In the dark hour
Lips which had met mine righteously
But cursed my back as I walked away
I was born to trod at night
With ghostly sages
Tomorrow I may seek the light
Searching for truth
I know I have not found it here
In the darkness of my soul
Still
For now the dark and I are as one

Thanks, Lori. Darkness. Sometimes what we think or want to see there never quite materializes as we imagined it to be. Still, it is the expectation that is half the fun.

I like this image very much... almost womblike, protecting.

The dark can be seductive, whether it's the dark of mind or midnight... it also lets us see the stars. Great write!

"I call on the power of Night -- the shield that I don."  The darkness many fear holds a strange comfort... you walk alone in it, and yet are never alone in its company.  I can relate to this.

Yep, Michael, you have the right attitude toward the dark. Thanks for that.
