I've been around downtown, uptown, all about. Spent some time invested in Singapore Sling floating in and out of reality. Treaded water in the China Sea, walked the killing streets in the slums of New York City, surviving and thriving, in a pimp's crib. I've held the Holy Book in my sinful hand, the other hand stretched toward Heaven. Saved some folks that needed saving, threw a few back that was jiving. You might say I've been there, done that, but one thing was constant, wherever I was I was searching for you. I've taken out advertisements in the personals of every major city, scoured the white and the Real Yellow Pages. my mind has raged and sobbed with you in my thoughts, my heart breaking into musty sediment. And I'll not stop, I've places to go to look and maybe you'll be there. A lonely journey I've put upon myself. Will I find you, are you there? Maybe today, tomorrow, or when? I don't know, the prospects are bad. Some have told me if I would just stand still you would find me. ©October 17, 2011 / Jerry Pat Bolton ~* The saddest words of tongue or pen are the words It might have been.--John Greenleaf Whittier ~*~ |

I've often heard that love finds you when you stop looking for it. After such seeking, I hope it finds you... standing still or not. |

Actually, suthern, this poem wasn't about me. My wife died almost three years ago, and I'm really not seeking companionship, but if it comes my way I shan't (love that word) run from it. ~* The saddest words of tongue or pen are the words It might have been.--John Greenleaf Whittier ~*~ |

I read this and want to say, "Been there, done that." Your ending proved right in my case... when I stopped looking, there it caught me. If it ever does catch up to you my friend, hold on with both hands and never let go. It will be the ride of your life. Michael |
