Amory Blaine in Reverse Amory Blaine in reverse, I drive a long black hearse down Broadway most every night a Duke Ellington vertical bird sang the sweetest tune I ever heard emotions more beautiful in black and white An elegant flapper girl she did unfurl a martini pool to drown in oh unmerciful world, somehow I know you're bound to win could you pretend to forget what town I'm in take the Gershwin from the machine and lift this curse oh Amory Blaine in reverse, could I feel worse? Rick Blaine in reverse, in, out of love, I'm cursed of all the gin joints in all the towns in all the world, she walks into mine she wafted through so very fine and left me wasted in this burning sundown An Ilsa Lund smile she carried awhile eyes darker than this wine oh graceful jazz girl, you are all that I'll ever have in mind would you forget to pretend this hole I'm in leave the rotting roses on the door you left me first oh Humphrey Bogart in reverse, this bubble has burst You feel it too you deal it, this hand that I'm banking on you'll pay too criminal though it is my heart without bliss it's just a sneaking kiss a Dashiell Hammett novel I read on the train leading me away leading me astray from you in the rain Amory Blaine in reverse, a drop to my dying thirst, lost amid these Broadway plays redemption in a woman's curls the wind gusts in ballerina twirls this drying painting been so hung-out for days And so, this is me at my very worst strung out on love, so faked, so rehearsed oh Amory Blaine in reverse, I am so immersed Great Gatsby in flames, and no one is to blame a Fitzgerald novel I dream in the rain washing me away washing meaning away from you and this elegantly broken picture frame. "The good thing about science is that it's true whether or not you believe in it." —Neil deGrasse Tyson |

THIS is unique and very, very good. Tinseltown, flapper-girl is represented well here, as so are the tragicness of fervent, but misplaced, unresponsive love. soul drifter, you grabbed me with this one. ~* The saddest words of tongue or pen are the words It might have been.--John Greenleaf Whittier ~*~ |

Extremely well written. As Amory Blaine might say: “Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.” JL Love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. Love your neighbor as yourself. |
