Karman Ghia Coupe
(Mein Bestes Auto)

Forrest green,
fast and lean.
Cutting through the wind
so fast and clean…
And
I was sure she could fly
if she would have had wings…

Not a Beetle, nor Super-Beetle,
and certainly not ‘The Thing.’

A
1970, Karman Ghia, Type-1…

My best car ever.
And in any weather
she would run,
in rain, shine, or snow.

And I never, ever drove her slow…

We ran a stretch through Indiana,
from Dana to Clinton
Highway 36 to 63,
then south to Terre Haute
and on to its university…

Not just streets but sidewalks too,
She fit perfect!
Especially when the sidewalks
were swept clean and new…

She chased rabbits
and helped farmers fence their land
she went ice skating
with me and my best girlfriend.

To me she was the best car
across this entire land.
That forest green Karman Ghia.
She was absolutely, purely,
just too grand…

Yeah, never owned one, but they were neat vehicles.

Oh really! I see this car was the right play mate of your youth!

Dein bestes Auto! How my mother tongue sounds sweet to my ears .... There is now a tv advertising for a car (sorry can't remember which one !) and while the spoken text is in Italian ... in the end the most charming voice says in German "Wir leben Autos!" - we LIVE cars! ... and I melt. Crazy.

I love this vividly vibrating poem, it has the colors of the enthusiastic years of youth.

Much enjoyed.

Margrit ... ich liebe Autos!

Incredible car... and incredible poem.  This car was very much a part of you, and it shows.  Beautifully done.

My first was an 82 footer named Sally.  She was
The USCGC WPB82352 Point Sal.

J: A Tr-3?  Nice!

Krawdad: Yeah, it was…  I could kick myself for selling her.
