Not About You While I pine for inspiration on this bleak and sleepless night, (A sensation inspired by cheap wine, and lack of someone to fight), As hope sinks like the Titanic, bringing swift end to the quest… Dark and manic comes the thinking, matching the hole in my chest. Where the shadows, deep and sordid, seem to demand nomenclature, Not afforded the brash hallows given those of purer nature. Still I lift my pen to parchment, pale, and offer this rendition, Behind the veil of muted sin but offered through omission. I will not speak of that charmed voice, bringing my heart to melt. Or, given choice, even this weak, of the emotion felt. …Of, how for years, day in, day out, we were not separated, With all about but souvenirs to souls redecorated. …The way I’d brush your hair each night – the way you’d sing soft to me And the delight, the outright rush your touch always sent through me. …Dome Rock shared at ten thousand feet, being our palace to the skies, A dream replete, beauty unmatched except by that of your eyes. …Of how you taught this wretched being to laugh, to smile, to trust. Or the hell I know I’ve wrought, even though I feel I must. …How one mistake can undermine the utmost of intention, Or fates entwined one can forsake to leave naught but dissention. And I will not, by Hymen’s groan, tell you my heart is mending, Or, all alone, besieged in thought, pretend I’m not pretending… But will stand tall, to sing this song, and pat my back when I’m through. It’s been quite long, after all, since I wrote a song not about you Michael Anderson |

Oh, your rhyme... your wonderful, marvelous, glorious rhyme!!! *S* So deft, so delicate, so absolutely delicious... if there's a crown for internal rhyme king, it should be fitted for your head!!! But this beautiful work is so much more than perfect rhyme and a flow so smooth it seems to pour off the page. Title notwithstanding, it is the emotion... the love, the devotion and regret that make this heartwrencher so memorable. *S* I almost made it without tears... then got to "pretend I'm not pretending" ... and it got me. *S* |

I know Dome Mountain... I know the heights when one is blessed, and I know the misery when one is not. No, this is not about you, but it is about, and for, many. |

Lori, your blessings are worth more than your praise any day. Thank you. Ruth, sorry for the tears… I will try to come up with something a bit more smily soon. Promise. Ms. E I Jwesley, thank you. Dome Rock is where I took Linda the first weekend she came to California… and while it’s truly only seven thousand feet… somehow it seems like I will never attain that height, or that beauty again. But, indeed, I will share it with you all if I do, K. Thank you for being here no matter what. JL, I’m glad you enjoyed. |
