Pillar

A pillar of weakness I stand,
Hope crumbling to the ground.
Sinking on foundations of sand,
Echoes of ire resound.
The dreams I once fixed my eyes on
A void within my chest,
I close them now if but to spawn
Feigned depictions of rest.

The rattling in my head but a
Cacophony of shame.
The weight of which burying the
Once boldly proclaimed name.
All facets of acclaim for naught –
Cracks on a brittle face,
I spend what little time I got
In misery’s embrace.

As, piece by piece, I fall away
Till no semblance remains…
Beyond the price I pay each day
Justice readily deigns.
A pile of rubbish, dust in the wind,
Tomorrow holds for me
Not a thing which credence could lend
An ounce of certainty.

Unto the gales so shrilly blown,
Feeling naught but the cold…
Reaping for each seed I have sewn
A measure of pain untold…
I cling to nothing, moving on,
If guided by mistrust.
All evidence of life withdrawn
To a pillar of dust.

Michael

Like one that on a lonesome road
Doth walk in fear and dread,
And having once turned round walks on,
And turns no more his head...

Misery's embrace... the hug no one wants... and even "rest" offers no respite from the bleak. *sad smile* I don't think it could be depicted any better than you've done here... where every line is the flagellation of a soul, each word the spill of a broken heart.

are you kidding me? Weakness? Really?
You are such a strength that I only wish I could be, Michael.

And in the Nothing that is left your soul is bound to bloom ...

You dwell in sadness and render this mood masterfully, dear Michael. Stay on the move and touch the sky ...

So achingly mournful.

No one writes the pain of the human condition quite like you, Michael.

No one.

"The dreams I once fixed my eyes on
A void within my chest,"

Burdens built up in your heart as a heavy weight, felt physically.  This is very well expressed deep emotional write.

Good to see you back, Michael.  As I have said before, your penance is done and Christ has forgiven you, but you really need to forgive yourself.  Think of all the millions and millions of people who have done infinitely worse than you and have no remorse.

You are not a pillar of weakness - you are a pillar of strength - think about it - the essence of you is still the essence of you -strengthened even more by fire.

You are also a pillar of poetry and a valued friend of many, and although I speak for myself when I say you have been missed, I am sure I speak for your many loyal friends in Pip too.

Now, how about a smile, a good look at nature around you (or as near as you can find it), a deep breath of fresh air in your lungs, and a deep appreciation of who you really are.  Smiles.

Lori, I’m glad you enjoyed.

Ruth, the “hug no one wants” has to come close.  That got a giggle out of me, anyhow.     Thank you for that.

Dixie, wow… I’m glad you see something in me, but would honestly question whether stubbornness might be being mistaken for strength at this point.  I thank you for the compliment, though, and will even try to live up to it…

Margherita, got that “rat in a cage” feeling all about me even as I write this… and though I can’t move around as much as I’d like at the moment, they can’t stop me from staring at the sky.   I’ll touch it soon enough, I sippose.

Karen, you come pretty darn close sometimes.  Glad to see you writing again, dear.

JL & flash, Thank you for the kind words and compassion.

Owl, I stand reasonably admonished.  I will dig for that smile… but probably spend a lot of time pouting in the search… lol
