Thirst My garden still grows sweet peppers and habaneros tomatoes that love fruit you know and a little corn too to pop over tickling flames Come pull some weeds tend some ripening fruit water a thirst you know my soil is so dry and the sun is setting with a burning-up red and gold you need not buy |

Nicely penned, makes me want to go pulling up weeds, and that is not my favorite thing to do. ~~ "Government is not reason; it is not eloquent. It is force. Like fire, it is a dangerous servant and a fearful master." --George Washington ~~ |

Krawdad, I am sorry your soil is currently so thirsty, but happy that your garden is still thriving with the fruits of your love and labour. I love the extreme satisfaction of weeding (wrote a poem about it a few years ago), and I SO love your sunsets in this poem which presumably wouldn't be quite so vivid without the dust in the dry air. In the heart garden the love plants grow like gems. I love the sweet melancholy that permeates your most beautiful write. I linger for a while here with you ...I hear the weed which whispers of its own reason of being. And one might well be to make people think ... Is there weed at all? I don't like to extirpate anything that grows, even the so called weed is beautiful. Let's sit down and watch the sunset and the little flowers which close their petals for the night ... and drink of this beauty. Love, Margherita |

We didn't have a long enough summer to harvest much this year, and we usually have too many zucchini. I think I got four cherry tomatoes, and so far only two zucchini, because it rained from October of last year to July of this One. Pull some weeds, definitely! Maybe build a green house. After all that water, our pipes broke, and the city charged us $292 for one month for water and sewer, and then pro- rated for six on it. Scoundrels! It really is hard to fight city hall. You know, I so appreciated the gold you don't buy in your beauty of a fall garden! Lovely write. ~KL |

Krawdad, I do believe that you will forgive me for using the thread of your poem to say that I really love Margherita's compassionate and poetic answer. Owl |
