he was ready to take on the world
school over with
body and mind primed for the assault
on the world
the peak he would zoon to
a pinnacle of the spectacular
beaming parents
watching from the wings
groupie lovers, shock and awe
he was positive
and that meant everything
being positive
he could conquer all
so how then did it get to this point
this . . .
getting up in the morning
this . . .
trudging out the door to work
this . . .
trudging back in the evening
this . . .
eating diner
this . . .
watching TV
this . . .
going to bed
this . . .
getting up in the morning …

This is powerful and I fear many will say they can relate. Enthusiasm of youth, when indeed everything seems possible and the ideas grow abundantly, like blades of grass ... slowly we seem to descend from our high flights into the skies of possibilities, of world matters to be solved ... landing in our own small circle of existence, making a living! And surrendering to the call of traditions, instead of expanding, while still honoring them.

Very thought provoking, dear Jerry, absolutely impressive work.

Love,
Margherita

Many kudos to you for your wonderful comments, Margherita. Yes, youth has it fire and energy, and there are those who keep their passion aflame, but the majority fall far short of where they perceived life would take them.

Jerry you have a knack for the nitty gritty. Sometimes I think that in getting from point a to b in life we have to just gut it out and put our nose to the grindstone to get there...there in lies the trap of eat, sleep, work that makes us forget what roses are for...

Thank you, Lori, and yes, I have been accused of being gritty, among other things. It is just how life has turned me I guess. We are all a product of the years before us.

That was meant as a compliment Jerry...you get down to the unvarnished truth of things...I don't think of you as a gritty person.

Oh, I took it as a compliment, Lori, sorry I didn't explain that fact well enough.

Karen, maybe so, but you would have put the bells and whistles in yours . . .

Oh, that's good.  And true. The dull monotony of everyday reality can surely wear away the shiny surfaces of our dreams.

But the way you say it is way cool ;0)

Oh boy, MorningStar, it has been many years since someone has said I was "way cool." You made an old guy feel . . . er . . . cool. That was sweet and thank you for reading and commenting.

LOL...

Oh Brother!
I think I once resembled that song.

Enjoyed the reminder.

But it is said, youth is in the heart, I guess after work and the business of the day, one can still renew themselves with a nice long shower or beer or both.
Enjoyed,

Oh yeah, Ms. E, I remember being able to party down all night, get home with barely enough time to take a shower, get dressed and get to work. I swore all day I was going straight him, but the closer it came to quitting time the better I began to feel and it all started over again. That was back in "tha sixties," and it was wild, wild I'm telling you.

This reminds me of the Statler Brothers song "The Class of 57 Had Its Dreams"... the fire turns to embers all too quickly!

Hey! What a great song. Come to think about it, it does have that same theme. Thanks suthern,
