TICK...TICK...TICK...

How hastily we live our lives
while the clock keeps ticking
ever watchful and wondering
why we treasure time so little
hastily rushing to and fro
tending life and meeting obligations
never finding the right moment
to appreciate the butterfly when it pauses
view the daylilies brief hours of life
hear the songs the birds offer
feel the unspoken words within a child’s hand
inhale the perfume of the day
all too soon the twilight darkens
forever the day is gone
what price paid for the day just spent
the clock at six and twelve displayed
hands in prayer to slow us down
yet we did not heed but rushed on forgetful
that eventually the clock will wind down
the hands forever frozen in time.

Thank you JL. Until we get older we don't realize just how fast time moves.

Beautiful, Marcia, but I must confess I refuse to miss out on a single moment.

I don't miss any either my dear, they just go by so quickly now that I'm older. Wiser, but older.

I'm trying my best to slow the hands of time down, but alas, and drat, they seem to be winning

It's inflation. Minutes are only worth 20 seconds now!

This wonderfully wise and beautiful poem should be a must read for all humans who rush through their days only to have more, instead of BEING more.

Such an efficient reminder, dear Marcia!

We have a clock in a room that ticks rather strongly and while I like to hear it, my husband doesn't tolerate it, as it reminds him only of the passing of time.

There is a tendency now to slow down, there are many books and philosophical texts that indicate the necessity and the advantages of slowing down. But it will be a long process.

Appreciation of the moment and fully be in it, that is indeed the goal.

Wonderful work!

Love,

Marcia, you brought back to me
the words of my father, spoken over
five decades ago, during one long
hot summer, when we were out taking
care of the rabbits, cleaning cages,
etc., and I was wishing summer would
get over, I enjoyed school so much.

"Don't wish your life away, baby...
you can never get it back..."

Thank you for the poem, and the
nostalgia.

I once had a fantasy and may have “written” a “poem” and about the hands jumping off the clock and start beating me and chasing me around and around making me go faster and faster and that I am already to late and hurry! Hurry up! Because they don’t have all day and need to jump back into the clock, but don’t bother looking for it in the archives I don’t even know what I called it and it surely ain’t worth reading.
I have to go now I’m late!

Giggles, Balladeer!  If it ain't fun and it ain't necessary, don't do it!  Find something else that is fun!  I have just left my 4-day-a-week job to concentrate on my company, and I don't remember being happier!  OK, I can hear you saying that maybe my memory is failing!  More giggles!
