GARDEN GRACE
25 August 2011

There she was . . .
in the garden
gathering a rainbow of flowers
in the summer sun,
laying each gently,
with reverence and care
in the basket
resting lightly on her arm.

She picked another flower
and mused a moment,
a slow smile playing on her lips,
the ocean in her eyes.
She lifted the flower to her nose
and its sweet fragrance
flooded her nostrils
and pervaded her lungs.

There was nobody around
so she allowed the veil of sadness
to draw itself slowly, like curtains,
over her eyes
and none heard the name she whispered
tenderly into the flower.

Then, a cold canine nose on her right leg
and a furry feline body wrapped around her left,
evaporated the veil,
and as she bent to put the basket down
to hug her beloved babies to her heart,
the sun’s reflection sparkled in her eyes,
and her bubbling words of adoration
and her bright summer smile
warmed the day
of a happy family of three,
basking in their indestructable bond.

such a beautiful descriptive writing, very true of motherly love! Fine writing.

Exquisite write, dear Owl. Makes one want to linger in the graceful atmosphere you painted.

There are names that preserve their fragrance forever and it is released whenever those names are thought of or pronounced.

Big smile here.  I was standing on my back porch having my morning coffee watching the entire episode.

Sometimes our furry friends can sense our moods, or maybe they just want some attention.

Enjoyed the scenery.

Your poem is so lovely Diana.

I can't imagine life without my Katie. I do know it would be a lonesome one for sure. Dogs were made to love and to be loved. Katie does her job well.

Have a grand day,
Marcia

Thank you, Prasad.  Yes, I adore my fur-babies, Benji, my dog and Cleo, my cat.

Thank you, Margherita.  Your reply, as so very often, is as beautiful as a poem – and a Margherita-poem at that – which says a lot!

Oh, so that was you, that I saw when I smelled the coffee and turned round, JL?  Big smile back to you!  I think our fur-babies both sense our moods AND want attention – and we love them all the more for both reasons and many, many others.  I’m glad you enjoyed the scenery.

Thank you for your kind words, Marcia.  You are so right that dogs were made to love and be loved.  I am glad that Katie does her job well.  Please give her lots of hugs and kisses from Auntie Di from sunny South Africa.

This is as warm and welcoming as a spring day after a cold damp winter.

Lovely.

Love comes in many forms and you seem to have them all in abundance, Diana.

Thank you, Ida.  Yes, you are so right about there being many kinds of love - whether I have them all and in abundance - well, sometimes I think I have some of them, other times I am not so sure - but what I do know is that I have the unconditional love of my dog, Benji and my cat, Cleo and they have mine - as with my Heavenly babies, Flicka, Tigger and Daisy.  Smiles.

Oh, Owl... *S* You set the scene so vividly I feel the sun's warmth and breathe the scent of the flowers! *S* I'm so glad Benji and Cleo wrapped you in their love... that's more suitable raiment for you than a veil of sadness!!

OMG, dear Diana, what a wonderful poem..
I am reminded of Dylan Thomas as I read this...

"There was nobody around
so she allowed the veil of sadness
to draw itself slowly, like curtains,
over her eyes
and none heard the name she whispered
tenderly into the flower."

"Where blew a flower may a flower no more
Lift its head to the blows of the rain;
Though they be mad and dead as nails,
Heads of the characters hammer through daisies;
Break in the sun till the sun breaks down,
And death shall have no dominion."
(Dylan Thomas-"And death shall have no dominion"

Poetry transcends the normal, your poem weaves itself into another poets heart, and thusly back home to yours in a great circle..

Indeed you Love your children/pets..and I am sure they Love you.. bound thus by Love-
death has no dominion..

Sorry for rambling, but some poems make me speak in odd ways...this one is one of them.

Ruth, your beautiful Ruth-reply has me smiling broadly and happily as I sit here with Cleo on my left side and Benji on my right.  Smiles.

OMG, Ford!  Dylan Thomas!  To be named in the same sentence as him, let alone for my humble writings to remind you of his, oh Wow!

You SO understand, Ford!  My living babies, Benji and Cleo and I are a wonderful family, and equally the bond never fades between me and my Heavenly babies, Flicka, Tigger and Daisy and all my other Heavenly babies over the years.

Ramble on, to my delight.  I don’t see anything odd in it at all.

Namaste (What a wonderful word that is for so many reasons!)
