CONVENTION 21 August 2011 There is a great convention here today. It’s a big one and of great significance. I can tell from the way the organisers are busy, busy, busy, rushing around making sure that everything is ready . . and now the delegates are arriving in great excitement. At first I thought it was only for the glossy starlings judging from their numbers, but no, I see a pair of purple-crested louries and a robin and some mouse-birds and hadedahs. No, all are welcome and from the happy chattering it is a most joyous occasion. Owl |

And you, dear Owl, are their reporter for the world! I can give this convention the meaning of a world peace conference, where everyone's idea can be expressed and discussed and where wisdom and beauty of the essence of all living beings are the forces that influence the outcome. May your birdies sing and chat on for your joy and ours too. In listening there is so much to gain! Exquisite. Love, Margherita |

Very nice, Diana I know you are speaking of birds, but can't help to compare what you say to the cam-pain-ing going on in the U.S. right now, for an election to be held over a year out. The politicians are all dressed in their finest feathers of deception..hoping that they can make some other bird migrate away from a white house. enjoyed the poem |

As fall approaches our feathered friends prepare their winter sanctuaries. I just wish that one robin didn't feel that the carpet on my front porch makes fine nesting material, I have to replace it each year. But at whatever cost the joy they bring is worth it. You've written a wonderful poem my friend. Peace be with you. Marcia www.thewritingforum.net |

a fine 'word painted' rendering of such an unconventional 'convention!' |

Thank you, Margherita. Yes, my birdy visitors bring me such joy and I am very proud to be their reporter!. I am glad you enjoyed it so much. Smiles. Thank you, Ford. Yes, birds do it so much better than people, for the most part, don’t they? Thank you, Prasad. It really seemed like a convention as the activity was frenetic this morning! Thank you, Marcia, and especially for not chasing off the dear little robin and for supplying him with 5-star luxury warmth for his family’s nest. Smiles. Thanks, Bruce. Yes, unconventional and absolutely delightful – I just had to share it with my Pipster friends. Owl |

I can picture a bird-feeder full to the brim with seed, and all types of birds frantically feeding and flying around. Great poetry. Enjoyed the read and the pictorial. A living poem. JL |

Nice, my friend. I've gone from seeing 40 to 60 species a year to about 15 or 20 now, thanks to civilization!! Miss them all. Well written. j. |

Thank you JL. I enjoyed your picture of the bird-feeder. However, I don’t ever put out a bird-feeder, because, no matter the season, there are always some or other trees in my indigenous forest garden that are fruiting, and the birds have ample to feed on from these natural self-replenishing bird-feeders. Smiles. I think you will enjoy this picture even more. Thank you for reading, Jimmy. 15-20 species a year! I had to keep re-reading “year” to make sure I had seen it correctly. Ouch! It is a while since I counted, but I probably (just in my garden) see at least about 15-20 species a day. Owl |

OOPS! A little mis-leading there! 15-20 a day for sure...in/from my yard now ... much higher before concrete started replacing forest! Of course the vastness of the species in your area of the world surpasses what we have here on a consistent basis. j. |

Oh, glad to hear that Jimmy! It is a while since I counted - and can't remember how many it was when I did - now I just enjoy them. Owl |

Now, there's a convention I would love to attend. The Robins have stopped by my place to chatter and eat the Chokecherry berries on my trees before they fly of to their other homes. I love the Robins and the chatter of all the other birds who hang out here. xoxoxo A |

oh I LOVE this, I have so come to love the busy little visitors I lure to my yard...hummers so many they sound like bees, a family of squirrels, and lots and lots of feathered friends...I have gotten the whole family addicted as they tell me 'shh, come quick and see, we have have never had one of these before' |

Thank you, JL. I enjoyed your enjoyment of my poem and the additional 2 cents. They made me smile. Thank you luminosity. I love your reply. Thank you especially for loving the squirrels. So many seem to find the precious little darlings a nuisance. I think we need to give them all directions to your home (mine is too far over the sea, I wouldn’t like them to drown!). Thank you for getting your whole family to love all your little visitors. As far as I know, the only squirrels in South Africa are in Cape Town. Owl |
