Shelby the Cat
May 1995 - July 4, 2009

Shelby the cat
was our Queen Bee
She told off all
the younger cats
but she had
respect for the older ones

Casey and Hobbes passed
away a couple of months
before her of cancer
But what finally took Shelby
was her kidneys and
heart failure

She was the kitty that
we found up in
a really tall bush
just meowing away
saying "I don't want to
be an outdoor kitty"

Shelby would also disappear
but you would find her
hiding undercover
Somehow she would work
herself under the bed
sheets and sleep there

Shelby used to be a fat cat
but in the end she was fat
no more
She shed from a 15 pound
or more bowling ball
Down to less than 11 pounds

Shelby had many nicknames
When she was young we
would call her Velcro Kitty
because she just loved
to climb the curtains
with the slightest of ease

But when she got older
her nickname was changed
to Undercover Kitty
because she loved sleeping
under bed sheets with
my mom and my dad
in her last years

I loved Shelby very much
and I could not let her
suffer in this world anymore
So yesterday it was her time
But like I always say
I will still have the memories

It's touch having too do that to one of yours. I had to do it bout a year ago to my buddy, The Nipperdawg. Touching poetry.

I have five cats and three of them are getting pretty old. I'm dreading that day.
I have been through it before and know how you feel. So sorry.

Hugs, Julie. Shelbie, you are beautiful, and were quite the gymnast! Curtains look so much better with a kitty on them! Kisses on your beautiful nose.
