TREE

Like a tree whose roots grow deep
so when the rains drench the soil
the tree does not yield,
cannot be downed,
by the force of great winds, still
stands true and sound.
I have learned to be that tree.

I have learned to live
many years with rains, winds and insects
testing my fortitude. I can say that I am grateful
to my family and friends who have been there
to shore me up, and I for them,
when the rains came finally down.
I have learned to be that tree.

And, though at times, I may
be seen as weak
you'll never find a more truer friend,
like a tree I'll stand for myself and you
with tested resilience.
I have learned to be that tree.

This is true, Edna, and lucky are we who are shaded by this "tree."

Being a tree is magnificent and stately and you should be proud to be one, and I think you are.
