Lamentations I heard her voice for the first time, And felt my very heart smile. Though not my first or foremost crime, It was my first in awhile. I should rejoice, such blissful calm I have not held in years; But stand accursed, forehead to palm, Besieged by silent fears. I guess I never noticed a Comfort to isolation, Though I’ve grown accustomed to the Disassociation. But I, tethered this reservation, Need no ironclad shackles. To offer trust indignation, Or even raise hope’s hackles. The merit of forgone afterthought, I close my weary eyes… Recurrence of dream went for naught, No longer bringing surprise. And in this war of weathered faith, I need no monument To pass, the visage of a wraith, Clinging to energies forespent. As other voices, singing free, Guide me to softer places – Remind me of all I long to be, If but through unseen faces; Shaping what thought this mind has wrung, While darkness might confound me To the sorriest of sad songs sung, Yet failing to astound me. Silly me, I read the first few lines and thought maybe this would be happy (I know the title was a big clue otherwise) It is still a great poem no matter how you look at it! Lori |

Even in lamentation there can be peace in the silence of being alone in meditation of celebrating life and truth. Excellent expressions of grief, I hope it's just that poetically... Peace Brother... JL ![]() |

I think Lacrimosa from Mozart's Requiem is one of the most beautiful pieces of music... It played in my mind as I read... that beauty taking a back seat to these touching lamentations. |

you are the master at sadness and heartbreak, Michael. ~ If work is so terrific, why do they have to pay you to do it. ~ |

Your poetry - well, I like it. I love how you use words and how they all flow together. Yep, I get the feeling that it evokes, but, mostly, I find it just interesting to read how you put it all together. A |

Michael, it seems that you have walked a long, hard road through fire and storms, but, although it has wounded you, the trials and tribulations have simultaneously strengthened you, and softened hard edges, and that you have emerged with your head held high, an even better and a wiser man with so many wonderful doors opening up for you. Aside from the beauty of the content, this is yet another of your poems that simply has to be read aloud so as not to miss one iota of the grace and musicality of the rhyme and rhythm. Owl |
