Sandman’s toy

Always dreamt about sibling rivalry of the opposites,
How would it be to have fights on trivial affairs?
Not speaking for few days and back to sharing toffees,
Cycling together to school, running down the stairs,

Pulling those delicate ribbons off those pony tail locks,
Off those bros took off round and round the ground,
She’s told mum all about the fooling around at school,
The clown, black sheep are few of the words crowned,

After dinner those silent nasty pillow fights and cries,
Mum taking one of them to her room, the other in dark,
Still so protective of her from his own bad company,
Beating up those who bullied her at the near car park,

Today with rain water flowing through my umbrella,
My long coat drenched in this stormy August rain,
Though you never gave me a chance for rivalry or care,
Twenty six years have gone by but I still feel the pain,

August gusty wind swings the empty cradle to and fro,
You were so eager to become formless so soon,
Your shadow and my rocking wooden horse is all I have,
Every time I think you, I end up speaking to the moon,

With buckets, shovels, little sand castles they made,
For most of them made it, made it far away from the sea,
Mine was a sand castle with my sister resting in it,
Sandman’s toy, she was just a twenty five days appointee,

Oh this is a sorrowful poem,  and yet you and your sister's beauty shine through.

It's the way you write it, that makes one feel.

Beautiful work, Prasad~

What a lovely poem about such a sad, sad subject, Prasad. I read it twice because it deserved it.

Thank you for taking time to read and commenting, BluesSerenade. Appreciate your comments.

Thank you for reading, Jerry. August 3rd was my sister’s twenty sixth death anniversary. I was so happy when she was born and thought to myself of all the things brothers and sisters usually do. However it was not meant to be, she only stayed with us for twenty five days.  Appreciate your comments. Sorry for sharing a sad read though.

This is both beautiful and heartbreaking... so much love and so few days... what a wonderful tribute to a too short life.

Thank you for taking time and commenting, Michael. Truly, some of us do carry pain for much longer period; some admit it and others don’t.

How tender and poignant
are these memories, Prasad...
what siblings do for their own...

and I owe you an email.

Could be consuming thoughts, but you have made it a poetic tribute of love for your sister.
Heartfelt.
