EXHILARATION August 1999 Even the dull can marvel at tornadoes, sportsmen and fast cars. Have you sensed the tumult of a drowning fly? Or sped up your vision to see the colours of a butterfly between wing movements? Or been stunned by the liquid elegance of a snake flowing through the grass? Have you fine-tuned your ear to the minstrelsy of the spoken word or been swept away by a musical passage? Or been haunted by a painting? Or the texture of material, or the bark of a tree? Have you really smelled a Crimson Glory? I mean really? Have you let it’s sweetness permeate your lungs and nestle in your olfactory memory to recall at will over and over again? What happens when ice-cream slithers down your throat? Do you only taste it or do all your senses shout? It is not the adventurous who continually need to seek thrills and spills and Everests to climb. It is those whose senses are dead. For those with abundant life, the world around is screaming its excitement. Owl |

The causes me to recall an oft-repeated saying, "Stop and smell the roses." I have read many poems which celebrate the ordinary things most of us take for granted. (Have you sensed the tumult of a drowning fly? for instance). There have been occasions when I truly tuned into the what was going on around me, and when I did that I realized what a complicated world we live in and the magic all around us blend together and cause things to not look so magical, unless of course, like you, you seek this magic out. Liked this one. Saving it. ~ Clones are people two ~ |

I am so glad you have, Trina. It makes me sad that so few people have. Owl |

Oops! Sorry, missed your response, Jerry, while replying to Trina. I am glad you liked it. Sometimes there are just soooo many things to appreciate all at the same time that I can’t take them all in – like driving past our local nature reserve. Sometimes there are zebras and/or buck in a clearing that one can see from the road – and at all times there are all the beautiful indigenous trees. I feel I want to stop and enjoy each one. It is a while since I have been into the nature reserve, as I like going on my own, but crime is common there now and one’s binoculars, camera, cell phone and car/house keys are sure to be stolen. We have been reasonably successful at reducing crime in the rest of our suburb, but it is more difficult in the nature reserve. I am rambling. Owl |

Garapan, those who seek, will find - it won't be easy at first, but when it starts happening, it will blow your mind. Owl |
