Alex Chilton Is Dead Don't bother me I'm comfortable wasting this night strange creatures they weave and dart out of the light and I've been listening to the Replacements until my speakers have bled I'll never survive this love's bombardment haven't you heard, Alex Chilton is dead Please go with me down dark alleys to find my soul I'll be okay long as I have a love I can hold and I'll be painting Magritte on the wall black, white, blue and red cash in these blues at the suburban mall long live the king, Alex Chilton is dead Underwhelming youth over way too soon let's spend this time together, with a Big Star tune dreams are only movies we've yet to write they flash and they glow as they conquer the night tell me it'll be alright tell me it'll be alright Come comfort me leave your rain at my front door let's play Atari I'll let you nab the highest score this musical life is so beautiful and true listen to what the singer said so you'll know that I'm in love with you play it back for me, Alex Chilton is dead Overwhelming truths I face every night I find you're the spark to set fire to songs I write love is only electricity between you and me don't hold onto golf clubs, never stand under a tree say you'll stay with me say you'll set me free Please remember me in the morning of your leavetaking fly until dawn find a way to stop this heart breaking and we can sing out loud the Replacements glisten to what the singer said escape from entropy and disappointment spread the word, Alex Chilton is dead Alex Chilton is gone but the song will always play baby put the radio on and together we'll close out this day find out a way to say I love you "If dreams are like movies, then memories are films about ghosts" |

GREAT song/poem/whatever! The beat was there, the lyrics were amazing, I could almost put my own music to the words and hum along. I loved this. This could be as big as "The Year That Clayton Delaney Died." I'm telling you. Has it been recorded by anyone? Is it a new song? Good luck with it. ~ It's amazing how many women a woman can be. ~ |

Thanks. I would like someday to write a melody to this (I can feel in the flow of the words and rhyme how it can sound) as well as a lot of my work. And if anyone records it, it will be me! These are MY songs!! ![]() This was inspired by the Replacements song 'Alex Chilton'. I didn't know until recently that Alex Chilton had died. If you don't know the name, he was the leader of the Box Tops (in the '60s) and my beloved Big Star (in the '70s). |

Despite the fact that I love many types of music and songs, I don't know much about singers and songwriters, and have never heard of Alex Chilton (thanks for the explanation in your response) but I thought this was brilliantly put together. There are some songs whose lyrics are too good not to be poems as well, and this is most certainly one of them. I loved the minimalistic elements and the repetition of Alex Chilton being dead with a different slide to it each time. Owl |
