Upon a Poem Upon a poem I drew a wave Of hello, goodbye, I could not save The poem I found Upon a wave. Early on in childhood mist I blew a poem an early kiss I said hello I said goodbye To a poem that I would miss. Upon a poem I learned some lessons From a goose, for goodness sake! But from a poem I found a Mission Giving it all and such a shake. Never will I be a poet Never a poet will be me, But poetry within a poem Is all that I need To beckon me. Upon a poem I saw in shadows Upon a poem I saw in me A certain cry of similarity A certain need to find me free. Upon a poem an anthem sung, within its close I found A hum that became my heart, became My soul, within an anthem Wherein I held the gold. Within a country I found a song That I had rights, that I belonged, Tears that fly, and a throat that might close Within a country, I found my song. Within the song I found a poem To be my brother in his right I saw a poem hold him closely And saw his poetry alight. Within the pella I saw a child My kinship sister, who grew wild Without the effervescent grace Of kin hindering her every way And still I would kiss her very face Upon a poem I realized greed To speak its form to feed its need To dwell within a master’s mind Upon a poem I found that I’m The needy one, the one that breaths A poet’s wants, a poet’s needs For damn sure well I’ll never be The answer to youth’s poetry And yet, I yearn. I yearn to spill some wisdom along The roads they’ll travel, yet Not belong To moods that fit their melody Upon a poem, I cannot see That whether I write by touch Or type or cursive or mood Or whatever be, Upon a poem, I shall still find dance That Al’s hammer can’t remove. … And should that day alight When I don’t smile your bright And never beckon to belong When my music has stopped its song And age has beckoned a last wave, Know that poetry Was my save. ~*~ © KRJ 7-3-2011 "The business of the poet...is to show the sorriness underlying the grandest things and the grandeur underlying the sorriest things." For sure you are a poet, Sunshine. This is an excellent, well thought out, well-written and well delivered. From Mother Goose to the colors of the red, white and blue in your veins you have taken the reader on a magnificent trip, and this reader will not forget it because I am saving it. ~ It's amazing how many women a woman can be. ~ [This message has been edited by JerryPat2 (07-03-2011 10:39 PM).] |

Hi, K, and thanks for the offering of your soul's work. Some people let out their emotion thru music, others thru poetry. Nicely worked here, Jeff |

Sunshine, I try to never contradict a person or point out errors in their posts out of general courtesy. But due to the blatant nature of this one error, I just have to: "Never will I be a poet Never a poet will be me," Are you kidding? Beautiful poetry from a most gifted poet, my friend. Michael |

Magnificant!!! And you are definitely a poet of the highest order. Anyone can write a poem but it takes a gift from God to be a poet. You've been gifted Sunshine. Write On, Marcia www.thewritingforum.net |

Michael said it before me and better... but those lines stood out for me, also. *S* What a magnificent journey you've shared with your words... in this poem and always. *S* |
