              the mist

A misty morning dawn
drapes these ancient hills
in blissful peace and serenity
until an early passing rain
disturbs the lake of polished
  glass
and breaks the gentle silence
of this deep forest world,
to shake the consciousness,
until all seems at once
both alien and dear,
for our lives and our dreams
  are the mist.
