How easily it seems They move the young Unburdened by time Or experience Lighter than air They walk in the park By the riverbank The wealth they have That confident ignorance Strewing faith and flowers Along the way While we Who’ve been Expecting harm Go as yet is still beyond Even their saddest imagining The same sun the swans Their slender necks Curved like answered Question marks No Not likely And never again . |

A smile, as you remind me of Kenneth Clark's comments about the old, gilded-age "top culture" people being "ignorant as swans"... I like that the actual swans reference you keep offstage here until near the end. Very effective. |
