APRIL SHOWER DELIGHT 26 April 2011 Leaving work today in the pounding rain, I wanted to laugh and sing, and dance in it all the way to my car and open my mouth and drink the drops that would have tickled my tongue and take the hands of the people cowering from it under shelters or rushing through it with bowed and covered heads and pull them gently into my dance in the glorious rain . . . but I didn’t . . . however, I did walk through it, unhurried, with my face bent upwards, exhilarated by every cool raindrop ignoring the stares of the sensible, saddened at their loss. Hah! That sounds a lot like me, because I do that never mind the strange looks I get. Sometimes I wish I could just get nikkid and skip through the puddles, but even I have to draw the line somewhere. ~ Passionate kiss, like spider web, leads to undoing of fly. ~ |

Love this.I also love the rain. We always used to put on bathing suits and go running into the rain dropsas children. I let my children do the same. Nothing more pleasant and fulfilling. Thanks for this one jo |

Thank you, Yann for your lovely comment. Yes, South Africa is a much drier country than France, but Durban gets quite a bit more rain than some of the areas of South Africa. We get most of our rain in the warm months so it is easier to enjoy the rain here than in many other countries. However, even here, not everbody enjoys the rain. Rain always reminds me of my childhood in Oregon where it rains all the time and the springtime is beautiful beyond belief. When it rains I always forget my umbrella(on purpose) Ida |

Thank you, Steaven - "Sing-ing in the rain, I'm sing-ing in the rain - something something something something, I'm happy again" yes, Steaven, that is exACTly the feeling I had. Thank you Dawn, for your lovely comment! I am happy that you love the rain as much as I do! Of course, it is easier in South Africa than Alison's Alaska! Owl |

I thought of you today and of this poem, dear Owl, because I have been blessed with heavy rain after gym while walking home. It was so strange, there was still sunshine, but it rained and I turned around and around again and again to find the rainbow which should have been somewhere I thought. Probably behind the buildings somewhere .... Anyway I enjoyed it greatly, just took off the glasses. I was soaked to the bones when I arrived at home, but I had such fun. Love, Margherita |

Oh, how absolutely delightful, Margherita. I am so glad you enjoyed the rain so much. Thank you for thinking of me and my rain poem. I don't know whether it is just a South Africanism or whether other people in other countries also do so, but here in South Africa, we call rain while the sun is shining, "a monkey's wedding." I have no idea of the origin or the meaning of it, but I love the saying anyway! Owl |
