"Winter’s Rose" (In memory of my mother, Margaret Anne) Dust particles dancing in the sunset settle on the chair where yesterday you sat It is a brief moment of eternal beauty witnessed through my tears of grief. The air is perfumed with remnants of you the cat goes from room to room, searching the dog lays by your chair, waiting, listening and one bright rose blooms beyond winter’s window. The sun has bid farewell and the stars begin to play, one races across the sky ...a supernova making room for tonight a new star has been called home. Now who will prop me up and dry my tears? Who will have the answers to my many questions? You will Mom, I will look to the stars ...and you will. © Marcia Miller-Twiford |

Exquisite, Marcia! Hugs. I envy you, your mother. Tears are coursing down my cheeks for you, your mother, the cat, the dog and me. Owl |

I'm sorry I made you cry Diana. A great man once said to me, "We're all born to die." That man faced his own death with great dignity. I hope when the time comes I'm able to do the same. It's been many years but I still miss my mother and always will. She was the best friend I ever had and died way too young. But, when God has our welcome home party planned we have no choice but to attend. Namaste~ Marcia |

Beautiful poetry, Marcia. That great man was correct. Would that we all face death with such an attitude, but it is still a fearful thing to have to bear for most of us. ~ Don't insult the alligator till after you cross the river. ~ |

Thank you Jerry. What can death be? As I approach the time I find myself asking that question often. Either we go to sleep and that's the end of it, or we go on to Paradise as the Good Book says. Either way is fine with me just not too soon. You're welcome to return to The Writing Forum at any time. It's really alive now with some great writers. You won't get the feedback you get here but you'll have a wonderful showcase for your works. |

Yes she will ... that's my belief too and that keeps me so very grateful. You have written a most beautiful, touching poem remembering your dear beloved Mother. Mine also was my best friend and continues in this exclusivity ... she is in most of my dreams and sits next to me even in my car. Love, Margherita |

Dear Margherita, If it's a good relationship the mother and daughter bond is the strongest there is. It's been a long time but every once in awhile a whiff of my mother's perfume waifs across the room and I know she's near. We'll be together again one day. Thank you for your kind words. Embrace today, it won't happen again. Marcia |

I read this through tears. I know how it feels to miss someone. One of the best tributes I have read...to anyone. Ida |

A well-written poem, and sentiments with which many of us can empathize. |

This is a very beautiful poem and tribute to your mom. Emeraude is one perfume my mother used and although I am not fond of it, I keep a small sample bottle of it on my bathroom shelf. Thank you for sharing this. latearrival |

My mother wore Coty's L'Aimant. Same maker, different frangrance. I too have a small bottle of it on my dresser and every once in awhile put a dab on my wrist. Thank you for your nice comments. |

A lovely and moving tribute to your mother. I too am sure she will - you just have to listen and feel. Helen |

Marcia, I love what you and latearrival said about the sample of the perfumes your mothers wore - and I allowed your poem to pervade my senses and emotions again. (I have reread it several times for it beauty of every kind.) Owl |

My pleasure - the first time I read it, my tears were in the way. The other times I held my tears at bay and so could take in this exquisite poem properly. Owl |
