I dreamt of good people doing good Love came alive as it rightly should Folks of all colors and races came Saying Love is the answer, and our aim. Oh, I was having such a grand dream With peace and joy and love as its theme I smiled also amid all the throng Such diverse people getting along. My dream was taking place in a hall A great hall which surely did enthrall Glad-handing politicians were there Speaking honestly, it cleared the air. Movie stars, you would know who they are Many nations showed up, even a czar Tyrants, terrorists, in long queues Waiting to grasp the hand of a Jew. No insensitive words did I hear Love, I tell you, made everyone cheer Mankind has finally got it right Enemies for centuries did not fight. Peter Paul and Mary sung us songs Joyful their vision not proven wrong They were blessed to again be with friends Of course they sung, "Blowin' In The Wind." I had to be smiling as I slept Love has solved man's problems; I just wept Rubbing my eyes from tears of chaste joy Off to the side stood a weeping boy. I asked him why he was having none He stuttered, so they laughed and made fun. I tried to call attention to his plight And as I looked around things were not right. Small groups were forming tight-knit cabals They were screaming and starting to brawl They splintered off according to race Somebody yelled "fascists" then came mace. Nations signed treaties to stop the absurd As soon as they signed they broke their word Name calling started, someone got shot The shooter was strung up on the spot. My beautiful dream of love and peace Became a riot, where are the police? I sat up in bed and looked about Love cannot last when there is self doubt. ~ OK, so what's the speed of dark? ~ |

Thanks a bunch, dreamgal. I originally was going to write a happy poem about people who loved their fellowman, etc., but reality kicked in and the pessimist inside me reared it's head and I wrote it thusly. Unfortunately humans are not very loving people. We say we are, but few have truly evolved to the place where they love everyone as they do themselves. I remember the love generation who claimed love was what they were all about cursed and spit on out troops coming home from Vietnam. Not very loving. Sorry, dreamgal, got carried away. ~ OK, so what's the speed of dark? ~ |

Your title made me giggle, Jerry, despite the sadness of its import. I enjoyed your poem immensely, even the end. I feel the same way as you expressed in this poem so many times a day, but sometimes, just sometimes – perhaps even more than just sometimes - when I think the worst, there is an altruistic communication or act that makes me rethink my negative thoughts, and realise that there really are some people who are kind and good and wise – and most of them seem to be in Pip!!! Smiles. I love your current signature quote too! Owl |

Jerry - as I read the poem, the idealist and the dreamer in me went along and wished for a 'happy' ending, but the realist in me is also never far behind, and, knowing men, and myself, one must admit at end that perhaps what will be needed is more...perhaps some innate change at the core of the human race - for the change will have to come from within, not without. You nailed it, CastleGuard, but human nature being what it is, I have my doubts. Thank you for your contribution to my effort here. Lori, thank you. Always. ~ OK, so what's the speed of dark? ~ |

It is possible to manifest whatever our mind conceives, whatever our beliefs are ... but we are in this world of duality and it isn't easy to remain always trusting and positive. Not at all. Yet I see that more and more people are becoming aware of being part of ONE humanity and that the fighting each other is stopping us from evolving. You have written a wonderful piece of poetry and you reflect human nature very powerfully, dear Jerry. Hatred/Love ... we are all affected by thought patterns due to experiences. I once had an amazing dream and I will never forget it: In that dream I stood on a terrace of a small white house facing another similar building and on that terrace there was Bin Laden looking right into my eyes and then he bent down in a rapid gesture ... in the dream I thought he is taking his gun to shoot me and fear paralyzed me, BUT Bin Laden straightened up again and between his hands he held a white dove and launched it in my direction!! My heart pounded still strongly when I woke up. So you see how our mind works and also tries to influence us for our highest good. Thank you for allowing me to remember through your beautiful work. Love and peace Margherita |

Margherita, that Bin Laden dream. Don't know quite how to deal with it, so I won't. Well, yes I do know how to deal with it. But I won't. Thank you Faith, I always appreciate you being here. ~ OK, so what's the speed of dark? ~ |

Love your title, Jerry, and the poem, yes, that too because it so well describes what could be but isn't. Ever think that we're pawns being moved about on a chessboard just for fun? Great poem! Helen |

Great overall summation Jerry. The depth of the conception seems to be lost in the mundane routines of life as many many people are like turtles in their shells. Most of them lost in the promises of governments that are questionable too. Great work my friend!! Eric |

I love your title, it made me smile and I thought this would be a funny poem. I agree with CastleGuard and everyone else here not much more to say. Except that I love Peter, Paul and Mary - but unfortunately Mary has passed away. Great poem! Kat >^..^< |

Ye, Helen, I do sometimes feel that we are merely players to be shuffled around as the chess master sees fit. I have come to loathe politicians. Eric, when you mentioned promise of governments are questionable you are absolutely correct. As bad as it was in the Middle East I think everyone is going to be greatly surprised when the "freedom" fighters turn out to be even more restrictive that the original ones. Al Qaeda is behind all of it I am almost one hundred percent sure. Thank you Kat, for your contribution here, it is greatly appreciated, ~ OK, so what's the speed of dark? ~ |
