Once you realize you need mercy Then equality is in sight Open the doorway to position You can be someone's delight When you recieve that mercy gift It's no flattery shroud It's poverty's emotional help Makes humans forget themself Mercy's a diamond without money A paradise without hell, And mercy's mission is urgency Before this world destroys itself. Religion's mockery of mercy Keeps killing man's fellow man Who's to judge what is mercy When countries claim God's their man Give religions their just due Empty all their bank accounts Take the pauper from the refuse Give him a turn around. Make mercy your platform Feed the poor within this land No lies no scams no special tricks The truth within your stand. Then politics will finally Make you an honest man...??? true love never looks after it's own interests |

Don't know about Canada, but the poor here in America have air conditioning, drive late model or new cars, spend money on fast food rather than cook, and many other things that when I was growing up people that well off certainly didn't deserve the tag as poor, and wouldn't be getting "commodities." Yep, there are truly poor people. Last year in America, a family of four making $22,050 was considered poor and eligible for all the perks. We have decades of the same families who live off the government continuously. A credit card, which the government pays, house subsidized, . . . I could go on and on. What poor people in this country earn each year from the government would make real poor people in other countries like millionaires. It is time we reevaluated what the poor actually are. I agree with you about religion, the biggest sham on the poor people that has ever been run. Even Mother Teresa questioned her God near the end of her life, and I think died still questioning (H)im. ~ Look hard behind you and you'll be able to maneuver around the pitfalls ahead of you. ~ |

I understand where you're perception comes from Jerry but there's human beings all over the world. I sense a certain resentment in your comment and I understand that also. We have generations of people up here on welfare. However, that's not just exactly the perspective I was trying to create. More of an overall look. “In the 1948 Universal Declaration on Human Rights, the UN described access to adequate housing as essential, but, more than half a century later, the right to a secure home is by no means guaranteed,” states BBC News. A recent UN report estimates that 100 million people throughout the world are homeless—including over 30 million children—and warns that the situation is getting worse. In developing countries, the UN blames the problem mainly on rapid urbanization. Additionally, in Southeast Asia and Africa, some 600 million people live in overcrowded, poor-quality housing, lacking adequate sanitation and water. Wealthier countries are not immune. In the United States, up to 700,000 people live on the streets. In some parts of Western Europe, 12 out of every 1,000 persons are homeless. Even in those developing countries the religionists and political leaders have all the wealth and they're not willing to share it with the poor. Sometimes they even exterminate the poor to get rid of them. Two sides to every story and I appreciate yours. That's why the reference to political and religious reform mentioned in the poem. If everyone was merciful, no matter what else, and leaders (thus also merciful) were also honest, knowledgeable in what they need to know, and wise, the leaders would have a much easier job to guide the rest of the world into harmony and unity of its diversity. Showing mercy is not easy and is not for sissies. Well done to you, Eric, for your acknowledgement of the value and honour of mercy. Lovely poem in its own right, too. Owl |

Hello Ethome, I asked mercy only one time in my life, I was beaten up (morally not phisically), so I can't tell where the truth is about mercy even i Guess it is a wonderful initiative and sentiment...Your poem has the beauty of the heart in it and that means a lot...Thanks for the very enjoyable read. yann |

Hi Eric - I think that to show mercy one first needs to find compassion. Not many people in this world of "me, me, me" are compassionate. In fact, compassion, is perhaps higher up on the ladder than love. Enjoyed your thoughts here and your presentation. Helen |

"the right to a secure home is by no means guaranteed," Sorry, Eric, but there is no such thing as a "right" to secure housing. There is only a mindset to have one and work toward that end. After saying that I understand there are situations all over the world where certain people, either skin color, ethnic background, etc. prevent them from owning homes, and that should have, by now, been changed. Unfortunately, it hasn't in many places. ~ OK, so what's the speed of dark? ~ |

Mercy...a hard thing to ask for, and even harder thing to give. I like this, makes me stop and think "Have I given/received mercy when/where it was needed?" Always a pleasure. -Trina |

Don't be sorry for your thoughts Jerry. After all those are BBC's words. I don't agree with your perception and I think you're taking this too literally. I think what they mean is everyone should have the right to choose to seek secure housing through their efforts given the opportunity. It's the opportunity that's so often missing. This writing can't be catagorized by USA only, although there's problems there like everywhere else. I understand you come from the old school like I do where everyone worked hard to achieve their goals. Sometimes it took a long time to accomplish the feat. For sure too much is given away in the welfare dept. It seems like it's not distributed to those really in need but to a bunch of semi professional freeloaders. I always appreciate your thoughts.
