As many know, my youngest daughter was married this last weekend. I had the privilege of walking her down the aisle. The venue was lovely and I was emotional. Here are my memories of that walk... . slow parade down the runner soft glitter-stars litter the silk-laden path columns of splendor safeguard the silence of glory unfurled pause for drama and pictures, please flashes hail their star-burst brilliance resumes the march, continuity flows pathway aglow with lace and love as a dark-suited father leads a little girl down the carpet of elegance to the new-found love of her life pause for drama and pictures, please to announce that final giving away as the dark-suited father fades to gray and the prince of the aisle leads her to say I do, and they will...love happily ever after |

Quite a sentimental and very well written piece. Through it all I could sense happiness, nudged a bit with some real sadness that you were losing even as your daughter was gaining. That is just the way it is. I wish for the newly married couple eternal love and peace within the marriage vows. ~ Look hard behind you and you'll be able to maneuver around the pitfalls ahead of you. ~ |

dreamgal, thank you. I showed it to her and she copied and pasted it to her facebook account. I guess that means she liked it? Owl, thank you for the well wishes. Yes, it was a day full of mixed emotions. We are trusting God to make it work. We really like him a lot. Linda, you know that line started out as a typo. I meant to write the traditional 'live happily ever after' but typed the word 'loved' and decided to just leave my Freudian slip as it was. Congrats on your daughter, and may you shed many more happy tears of love. Lori, you are too kind. Thank you so much. Emma, thank you (from the luckiest one of all,) as he pulls a picture from his wallet to show her beauty to all... Kat, thank you. My greatest keepsake was the smile from the groom's face when I saw him look at my daughter as we walked to that place where I gave her away. It was precious. |

Trina, thank you for the well wishes and thank you for taking the time to read and comment. Margherita, your words are well chosen and kind. Thank you for those 'best wishes' and we all certainly do appreciate them. Sunshine, I have found it is best to simply wipe those tears quietly away rather than try to explain them. My daughter said I was trying to sabotage her (she was determined not to cry.) My voice broke when I said my line, "Her mother and I do." Right about when I got to the word I. Alison, and that is what we Daddys count on--that our daughters will always be just that, daughters who love their fathers. Thank you for reading (and your kind comments.) Blues, thank you. Congratulations, Steaven. You have written a beautiful poem in honour of the occasion. I don't know what my father was thinking on the day I got married which now, as I think about it, is a bit of a shame. So glad you gave your poem to your daughter. The last line is perfect! Helen |
