An Infinity of Strangers Beyond the twilight vanishing point of these ancient, inscrutable sentinel moon-swept trees and hills lies the vast, starry immensity of cosmic indifference; while here below there remains but an infinity of strangers where I belong now to only the implacable silence from which we come and must return. --- b. e. adams (3/19/2011) |

I just want you to know that I am among those strangers who appreciate the beauty that you share with us. Someone always stands above a crowd and, to me, that someone is you. A |

Bruce, whilst I have a different belief of what/Who is “out there” and a different perception of the people around us, this is still an extremely beautiful poem. This is, to the best of my recollections, the loneliest poem I have ever read, and it saddens me deeply that you feel this way, and that this is not just, as in the case of some poems of some poets, a current mood, but what pervades your thoughts over all time. I wish, for your sake, that it was otherwise. I hope and believe (I think!) that you won’t be offended by what I have said because it is well meant. Smiles. Owl |

If loneliness leads to the creation of something this beautiful then it must have it's own very special purpose. Ida |

It never ceases to amaze me that folks can witness the immense suffering and deaths of countless masses of the innocent throughout all of human history (Japan today; Hitler's Germany; myriad Inquisitions, Crusades, and "Holy Wars" enacted with chants of "It's God's will!"; plagues; famines; etc.) ...and still profess the existence of some benevolent (but apparently blind) universal 'watchmaker' at the helm?! |

Dear Poet Bruce, I can understand your "amazement" and your anger. However, from my way of thinking, there are even more glorious things on planet Earth that totally amaze me. Like yourself, I have to question some of the horrors that take place and wonder where our Benevolent Father is at those times. Then I behold miracles on a daily basis and I know that He has played a Hand in making them happen. I understood your poem, but I chose to quote the first lines because of their intense beauty. Warm hug, Linda |
